13 Life Saving Heroes Honored at MEA's Annual Operations Conference
Eagan, MN (PRWEB) August 13, 2008 -- Each year MEA sponsors the Life Sustaining Awards program to recognize industry employees who have performed service "above and beyond" the call of duty by saving or attempting to save the life of another. Applicants for these awards are approved by the Executive Committee of MEA's Board of Directors. This year MEA recognizes 13 Life Sustaining Award winners and awarded 7 meritorious service certificates.
Sam Stay of CenterPoint Energy Minnesota Gas was awarded MEA's Life Sustaining Award for saving two women from carbon monoxide poisoning. Scott Shaffer, Darren Kennett, and Justin Stanke of We Energies saved several families from a fire and potential propane gas explosion. Tom Holmstrom of NorthWestern Energy saved a 2 year-old drowning child by performing CPR. Dallas C. Wilson, Gerald P. Stanley, Richard W. Costello, and Timothy L. Mixan of Metropolitan Utilities District, Jim Conley and Doug Frederics of MidAmerican Energy Company, George Woodward of Alliant Energy, Max Smelser of Omaha Public Power District were also honored for their life saving efforts.
This year's meritorious service certificates went to Alvin Clark of Metropolitan Utilities District for saving a 10-year-old girl from a man who sexually assaulted her, Bob Baade, Aaron Merkes, Troy Koeferi, and AJ Nehls of We Energies and Dave Long and Loren Swenson of CenterPoint Energy. Columbia Gas of Maryland, ComEd, Florence Utility Commission, Montana-Dakota Utilities, and Ponca Public Utilities received MEA's Accident Prevention Award at the Wednesday morning general session for the lowest days restricted or transferred (DART) incidents during 2007.

Dick Devine of Aquila, Inc. & Warren Satterlee of Montana-Dakota Utilities are Inducted into MEA’s Hall of Fame
Each year, Midwest ENERGY Association (MEA) recognizes those outstanding individuals who have contributed leadership and expertise to the energy industry through MEA events. This year’s inductees were recognized in Ames, IA at the 85th Annual Gas Operations and the 9th Annual Electric Operations Conferences.
The Hall of Fame was instituted in 2002 to recognize leaders and contributors to the energy industry. With the induction of Dick Devine and Warren Satterlee, 31 utility and supplier-company individuals have been honored with this award.
Dick Devine of Aquila, Inc. has served on MEA’s gas safety and training committee for 12 years. Devine has also been an MEA trainer for over 10 courses and has participated in 26 MEA events.
Warren Satterlee of Greater Minnesota Gas, Inc. has chaired the Gas Operations Steering Committee and served on MEA’s Marketing Committee and Board of Directors. Satterlee has also participated in numerous MEA events including 14 Annual Operations Conferences.
MEA thanks Devine and Satterlee for their years of service to MEA and to energy operations.
