The Electronic Marking System utilizes markers specifically programmed to emit a frequency to identify the utility it is marking. Each utility (gas, electric, cable, and water) has its own assigned frequency. The EMS Locator excites the marker when it is close by and causes it to turn on and emit the programmed frequency/signal. If it is the utility (frequency) you are looking for, the locator will help you pinpoint it.
